Social activities have always been an integral part of any educational institution throughout the history of mankind. He is therefore required taking part in various form of social and recreational activities since time immemorial.

Cultural Centre Ota:An Architectural Exposition of Hybrid Cultures

The thesis focuses on embracing the history and culture of the indigenous Ota people and uniting the growing population through the design of desirable spaces. The major research consideration for the project resides in creating an exposition of the Hybrid culture within the Ota region of Ogun State, Nigeria. The research was necessitated because of the ever-growing population: a lack of awareness amongst the growing population, of the newly evolving culture of the environment in which they reside. An analysis of the Ota Culture and its development forms the background for the research, starting with an identification of the general nature of the culture in Ota, Ogun state and narrowing down to the predominant culture of the larger group (Yoruba) that occupy the region. Identifying their elements, symbols and significant signs that form their culture in a bid to generate a suitable design. It is this new identify that the people of Ota would hopefully accept and identify with through the use of architecture. To celebrate this newly evolving cultural community, a cultural center is proposed.

Community life is closely connected with an understanding of relaxation with the urge for another vitalizing influence, beside the job and the family - an influence capable of expanding man's narrow private existence. Community spaces play an important role in the success of a city and its inhabitants. They become the foundation to which those living and visiting in the area come together and communicate. No great civilization has existed which has not fulfilled man's irrepressible longing for institution where such broader life can develop. Catering to the human needs of a community - physical, psychological, whatever - is an important aspect that needs to be focused on in the country. If places are indeed a fundamental aspect of existence in the world, if they are source of security and identity for individuals and for groups of people, then it is important that the means of experiencing, creating, and maintaining significant places are not lost. It is common knowledge in most if not all Nigerian towns, no conscious and determined effort has been made in providing the citizens a civic facility capable of generating a belonging in them, the situation is not different in Oyo town. This thesis examines the need for a civic center as a control point and natural rendezvous for citizens and as the same time to revive the disappearing cultural identity and the weak connection between the culture and its people

Model Housing Complex, Lekki Lagos: A Design Proposal

In a world with an increasing urban population and housing need, understanding how built environments can facilitate convivial living becomes an issue. This approach help provide individuals with answers surrounding satisfaction, hence serves as key design clement that are flexible and adaptive. Since the research focusing on promoting conviviality through architecture, few existing housing estate in Lagos Island were reviewed as case studies. This was undertaken to identify both built and natural forms that users of a built environment easily associate with as regards function and identity. An important point to note is that, housing community should be beyond housing the rich, but rather to provide options and opportunities for people to improve their living condition and be satisfied. The research thus offers options aiming to understand how people's self-representation of social inclusions can be translated in design capable of accepting and adapting to change base on purpose.

Bioclimatic is an important strategy toward achieving sustainable building. Through the implementation of bio climatic concept in building energy demand can be reduced leading to increased users' satisfaction. The modern world building scene tends to depend more and more on the economic climate as well as the geographical climate itself as none of the major players in the construction game can afford to ignore current conditions and dismiss logical solutions that can drastically cut the impact on the environment as well as the exploitation costs. A mixed-use development is a real estate project with planned integration of some combination of retail, office, residential, hotel, recreation or other functions. It is pedestrians-oriented and contains clement of a live-work-play environment.

"Though it is from the East that the sun rises, showing itself bold and bright without a veil, it burns and blaze with inward fire only when it escapes from the shackles of east and west..." ,Muhammad Iqbal. The Mosque, Masjid (from Arabic) is the most important institution of the Muslim world, also the predominant built form of Islamic architecture. We can clearly identity that the unique form of the Mosque, is derived from the essence of Islam itself, purity, simplicity and humbleness. The breakage of this essence is what has led to what we identity the crisis. The crisis is referring to the institution/spatial organization and architecture of the Mosque. Nowadays we find a tendency for the Mosque to be an architectural symbol catering mostly for the religious rights of the Muslim world, rather than catering for the everyday Muslim way of life."

A housing estate is a group of houses and buildings built together to meet the social cultural and technical needs of the community. This study looks broadly at the housing challenges of informal settlements, the causes and provides practicable solutions for the Ugbomro Community. An informal settlement is a place where people reside without housing policies or regulations by governing bodies. The growth of informal settlements, slums is a global phenomenon and should be treated with a universal approach. Lack of land, urban migration are some causes of this.Growth of informal settlements is a common feature of cities of most countries.The purpose of this thesis is to propose a housing estate that will solve the problem for Ugbomro Community.

Tourist Centre, Badagry: (Celebrating The Cultural Heritage Of The People Through Architecture

Tourism is travel for restriction, leisure, religious, family or business purpose, usually for a limited duration. Toursim helps to feel the void of curiosity and serve as a means of and understanding one another's culture as well as creating job opportunities. Tourism is becoming one of the fastest growing sectors in Nigeria. Many areas along the coast are exceptionally favourable to coastal tourism Nigeria..Many areas along the coast are exceptionally favourable to coastal tourism. Nigeria is a country with 700 km of coastline that is rich in natural resources dotted with small coastal settlement, which engage primarily in farming, fishing and trading. Badagry being one the coastal are in Lagos State. Nigeria is blessed with some of these natural resources which have been kept so that tourists can unearth the dark times of slavery. As a result, this study aime to encourage tourism the cultural heritage of Badagry. This was achieved by an in-depth fieldwork, observations and case studies of existing tourist site which helped in understanding the functional requirements of a tourist centre.

Leather Accessory Factory, Lagos: Promoting Made In Nigeria

In recent review, Nigeria major industrial supplies was put to be about 27% while capital goods, food and beverages, fuel and lubricants, transportation equipment and parts and consumer goods takes a whooping sum.Most of these account for the levels of importations either from Asia; Europe: America or some part of African (Trading economy, 2019), this information gave the idea that Nigerian like patronize foreign goods and for a country to grow there need to reduce importation to the barest minimum and also utilize locally sourced materials. It was found that of all the variables examined product quality was observed to be the major reason why Nigerians are averse to locally manufactured leather products in Nigeria.By extension, Nigerian are not inclined to purchase locally manufactured goods and also the limited number of standard factories in the country for production of leather accessory products has made it a bit difficult to promote made-in-Nigeria goods.

Waste management and recycling plant, Saje Dumpsite, Abeokuta: Architectural solution to sustainable energy

Ogun State South-west Nigeria has been need of constant power supply supported by introducing alternative means of producing electrical energy. The result of such efforts led to industrialization of Ogun State especially its capital, Abeokuta, in fulfillment of the Five Cardinal Programmes of "Mission to Rebuild" Ogun State and in compliance with the Federal Government's approval to generate power for all tiers of the government. This architectural thesis came about as an outshoot of such project. The research approach was via interview and site visitation with the Saje dumpsite coordinator and secondary data collection on waste-to-energy technologies in and outside Nigeria. The Ministry of Environment Abeokuta, Ogun state was scouted afetr due to Saje dumpsite being the only and largest dumpsite in Abeokuta. Nonetheless, documented information about the dumpsite could be counted as little to none despite it was previously a quarry site or motive could be based on the sensitivity of the data must not research the eyes and ears of the public. An interview with the coordinator who had supervised Saje dumpsite for 12 years (under the assistance and permission of the Ministry of Environment Abeokuta) was viewed as the quick fix to such this case as this case as the most the reseonable and weighted source of knowledge,

Senate Building: Federal Al University Gusau Achieving Techniques of Passive Cooling Through Architectural Design

The need for proper administration of a higher institution of learning makes a senate building a compulsory structure on campuses since it serves as the administrative block for the institution and it is normally the most iconic structure close to the main entrance for proper identification. This study aimed to discover passive design features through considerable literature study that can be included in senate building to make it energy efficient. The study also aimed to explore and evolve means of controlling heat gain naturally e.g. Wind, Sun, etc. which affect building 'Architecturally". By using and applying passive cooling techniques, i.e. choice of plan shapes, forms, type of materials, choice of finishing construction techniques, use of building components, orientation of the building to the sun and to the wind, percentage openings (Fenestrations), landscaping, and choice of a suitable sun shading devices that will serve the purpose on Shading as well with aesthetic.

Recreation is an activity that people voluntary pursue for personal enjoyment or satisfaction usually during their free time. It provides pleasure for millions of people amd contributes to individual mental and physical health. This study examined the impacts of recreational activities on youth development in Ogun State, Nigeria. Both primary and secondary data collected were collected.Primary data collection method included case study, observation and participatory interior secondary data collected are population of youth in Ogun State available parks and garden in Ogun State. The study revealed that participation in recreational activities could be linked to lower level of sedentary increase relationship with peer and friends improve the likehood of performing better in school and decreased participation in negative behaviours among youths

Post Disaster Relief Camp, Lagos Mitigation of Natural and Manmade Disaster Through Architecture

Disaster relief shelters play a vital role in Large-scale disaster and are an important part of disaster response and recovery. Shelters are used to provide private and secure place for people to live who have left or lost their usual accommodations as a result of some form of disaster. The principal aim of this research work is to evaluate post-disaster relief camp design and management practices in selected areas in Lagos. It also examines the extent to which environmental, economic, technical, and socio-cultural criteria affect the provision and performance of DR shelters, and how such factors might be taken into account in the decision-making and design processes of such shelters. To achieve this, well-structured questionnaires were sent out to users and occupants of commercial buildings in Ikeja, Lagos State. Disaster relief shelters not only provide immediate and short-term shelter for the victim of a disaster, but they also help them to recover from the trauma of disaster as well as provide a base to start the process of rehabilitation. A review of the literature, case studies, guidance, and reports relating to the design of DR shelters indicates that their provision and performance are not currently as effective as they could be. A lack of adequate consideration with regard to climate conditions, locally available materials and skills, cultural and social issues, delays, cost constraints, and poor location selection for DR shelters have each been identified as source of poor performance contributing to an unacceptable standard of living. Moreover, there seems to be a lack of sufficient consideration with regard to the design of Disaster Relief camps for future storage and re-use.

The Impact of Land Administration on Private Housing Delivery In Lagos and Port-harcourt Metropolis, Nigeria

This study examined the impact of land administration on housing delivery which has hitherto been confined to some of the functions of land administration and not the four functions of land administration.The aim of the functions of land administration and not the four functions of land administration. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of land administration on private housing delivery with a view to providing information on how to improve it. This study hinged theoretically on Land Management Paradigm theory to accomplish these objectives and hypotheses, the study undertook a systematic random questionnaire survey of 140 out of 1400 Real Estate Developers (REDAN) in Lagos metropolis, while 25 questionnaires were distributed to the entire Developers (REDAN) in Lagos metropolis while 25 questionnaires were distributed to the entire REDAN members in Port-Harcourt metropolis. Also interviewed, were heads of land administration agencies. Statistical tools ranging from descriptive to inferential were employed. Findings revealed that the land administration agencies do not exchange data and documents in the study areas.

This thesis investigates an alternative solution to road traffic congestion in Lagos state. With the present situation of road traffic congestion in Lagos state, there is need for an alternative solution. As a mega- city of about 22 million people, the state will continue to experience increase in population because of the level of economic growth thus will be more congested, giving this fact the need to resolve transportation issues is very crucial. Architects have the obligation to design transportation facilities. Lagos state road traffic congestion may be a subject that has been examined for years. This proposal seeks an alternative solution to road traffic congestion in Lagos in order to reduce if not eliminate road traffic congestion to the barest minimum.
