Interchange Transport Hub, Toll- Gate, Ogun state: (Proffering an Architectural Solution to Traffic Congestion)

Public transportation in Nigeria as well as many other developing countries is rapidly losing its value and function. Environmental pollution and traffic crisis on our roads have heightened awareness of the need for a better public infrastructure for transportation. People are pretty much married to their cars nowadays and the only reason for not divorcing them is the lack of an efficient public transportation. Thus, this leads to a large amount of cars plying our roads at the same time, which in turn results into an insurgent amount of traffic congestion. In present time, multiple accidents are being recorded on our roads daily and the death toll caused by these fatalities are ever increasing. To curb this menace, the idea is to design an interchange transport hub that can serve as the intermediary between usage of privately owned cars and public transport. It would also serve as a station to achieve the goals of integrated public transport services. The proposal would be more of an architectural rather than an urban project. This will bear in mind the current situation as well as the future with appropriate planning consideration. The site chosen is a strategic location which also serves as the boundary between Ogun and Lagos states, thus making it fit the perfect billing for this thesis project. So, In essence, this thesis will dissect traffic congestion issues broadly in Ota, where travel is dominated by the automobiles. It would ultimately argue for the need of implementing an interchange transport hub to aid the transportation system. When realized, a prototype design would be established for Ota which can then be employed in strategic locations all over the country where transportation solution to traffic congestion is crucial, in order to encourage people to employ the use of public transportation, as the greener choice of mobility.
