Farmer' Market Lusadai (Architectural Journey to Increase Food Supply)

In order to understand the reasons for food shortage, research was carried out to determine the factors and areas that cause food loss Some of these factors are; farms being too far from the market, farmers have little or no infrastructure for storing harvested crops, the crops harvested stay too long in the barns, get infested by rodents rendering them inedible thereby creating a loss for the farmers, to name a few. By doing this, the major areas needed to be addressed were outlined. The research gathered was done by the primary and secondary method of collection of data, carrying out case studies and visiting the aforementioned case studies. From the research carried out and information gathered, it shows that there is a lack of efficient preservation and storage of food practices which leads to the colossal food losses. It is the view of this thesis that to efficiently reduce wastage and spoilage of food, a storage facility should be adopted which will strategically reduce food wastage and spoilage while increasing circulation of fresh foods, This is because fresh food, grains and other food stuff needed for consumption would be available regularly all year round.
