Bells College of Architecture and Design Badagry: Structure and Identity of Schools of Architecture in Nigeria.

The designs of schools of architecture in any country is a representation of the state of architectural development in the country. Being the place where architectural ideas, design solutions, and architectural movements are formed, they should express the highest level of architectural sophistication and stand out among other buildings. This paper posits that the structure and identity of architecture schools are central to their design, therefore, for the purpose of proposing a design for Bells University College of Architecture and Design, Badagry, the structure and identity of schools of architecture were examined. To establish the hypothesis made in this paper, an extensive literature review was conducted to understand the place of structure and identity broadly and in the design of a school of architecture particularly. Also, a case study of existing schools of architecture was conducted. The schools of architecture covered in the case study include the department of architecture of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the school of architecture, Kwame Nkrumah University of science and Technology, Kumasi Ghana.
