College of Architecture and Design, Bells UNiversity of Technology, Ota: An Assesment of Universal Design Strategies in Selected Educational Buildings in South-West Nigeria

The objective of this study is to evaluate how universal design strategies are implemented in specific educational structures in South-West Nigeria. The intention is to recommend the establishment of a College of Architecture and Design at Bells University Technology that incorporates Universal Design Principles. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the adherence to universal design principles in the planning and construction of chosen buildings, while examining the effects of such strategies on users, especially individuals with disabilities. The research will employ a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, utilizing literature review, surveys, and case studies to gather insights from students, faculty, and staff of the college. The primary focus will be on users of selected educational buildings in Southwest Nigeria, including the School of Environmental Studies at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, the Department of Architecture at Covenant University in Ota, Ogun State, the Department of Architecture at the University of Lagos, and the Department of Architecture at Crescent University in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The study will involve a sample size of three hundred and eighty-five users, consisting of students, faculty, and staff. The study's findings will enhance the existing knowledge regarding universal design in the Nigerian context and provide recommendations for enhancing the design of educational buildings to ensure accessibility and inclusivity for all users.
