Abstract

Warri is an oil city, located in Delta State, the southern region of Nigeria. Vehicular transportation routes in the city have been highly compromised by illegal on-street parking and this has rendered accesses to places of business very difficult. Through interviews and the distribution of questionnaires to citizens situated in the problem area, it was deduced that the cause of vehicular congestion was due to illegal on-street parking and the result from the questionnaires indicated that an appropriate solution would be the implements of a multi-story car park facility. In order to aid the design of an adequate and functional Multi-story parking facility, a census of vehicles parked along major access roads per hour during weekdays was recorded and the study of the Multi-story car park at Ikoyi, Nigeria and the Murtala Mohammed Domestic Airport Multi-Story car park were carried out. Parking Facilitates should be an amenity to be given to citizens just as good roads, light and water are given.
