Development of a Matlab Based Pattern Design System for Plain Textile ( Ankara)
(Bells University of technology, Ota, 2018-08-30) ELEGBEDE, Adedoyin Waheedat; Prof. O. L. Olopade
Textile designing involves producing patterns for cloth used in clothing, household textile (such as towels) and decorative textile such as carpets. In the past, numerous printing techniques have been employed in patterning textiles an they an accurate representing of design when utilized but designs produced by the conventional method are static and rigid. Hence, MATLAB was used in this work to enable dynamic designs to be created for a particular textile material. This work developed patterns for printing different textiles and creative innovation designs using mathematics to server as instrument for artistic. The process begins with providing a plain textile material. A mathematical expression which generates the pattern is required. The pattern generated is assessed to check if it meets the intended design as well as the color the user requires. A different mathematical expression is used if the initially generated does not meet the requirement of the of the user. The final printing on the textile is done after the patterns have been arranged and the process simulated using MATLAB 8.5 simulation tool. This work presented eight different patterns namely: circular pattern - which is a combination of three concentric circles; floral 1,floral 2, combination floral, and petal pattern- which shows different kinds of floral design combined together as well as with other shapes; helical pattern which is a spring-like pattern; a star and a spiral pattern; designed using different mathematical expressions. These pattern can then be arranged different to form different designs on textile materials. A dynamic pattern design system for plain has been development in this work. This system can be effectively deployed in textile industries.
