    Effects of Attrition on Project Closure of Software Development Companies in Lagos, Nigeria.

    In the ever -revolving sphere of software development, managing projects to successful closure without missing deadlines and delivering the proposed results remains a critical challenge for most software development organizations. Attrition has been identified as one of the most significant factors affecting projects outcomes, specifically software development projects. This study investigated the existence of attrition, the effects of the attrition on projects closure of software development companies in Lagos Nigeria and recommended the adoption and practice of innovative strategies to efficiently manage attrition. The study utilized simple Random Sampling technique to select 100 respondents from the population size of 315. To gather required data needed for the research, the4 study distributed 100 copies of a well-structured questionnaire to our targeted respondents who were mainly employees od employers of software development firms in Lagos. Of the 100 copies of the questionnaire that were administered in two batches, 82 were retrieved, but preliminary checks revealed that 76 were properly answered so were deemed fit for use while the remaining 6 were not answered properly, so were not considered during the analysis. The data gathered was analyzed using Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient (PPMCC). Findings showed that attrition poses devastating challenges to software development projects. These challenges includes delay in project timelines, increased project cost, loss of domain expertise and disruption in teams' cohesion. The outcome of the research also revealed the top three major factors causing attrition as lack of adequate compensation or benefits, lack of opportunities. The study concluded by recommending the adoption and practices of innovative strategies for efficiently managing attrition despite the challenges it poses to software development companies and such projects to ensure improved project performance and successful completion.
